it is very important to have at least 4GB of RAM. But, the latest DDR4 RAMs are generally very expensive. On the other hand, if you see desktops with DDR3 RAM slots, you can get them at a very cheap price.
So, in this post, I am gonna discuss how 10 tips to tips to buy DDR3 RAM for your computer and which are the best RAM for your PC.
#1. Amount of RAM:
Before going to further, just ask yourself, why you are gonna buy it? If you are gonna buy RAM for your laptop or desktop for gaming or video editing, 3d modeling or other heavy uses, you need a good amount of RAM.
In this case, 16 would be a minimum for you.
But, if you just get frustrated with 2GB RAM and need more RAM for general uses, I will recommend you should go with 4GB minimum. If you don’t have any budget issues, you can also go with 8GB.
So, just ask yourself if you are gonna use that amount of RAM you are buying.
Every, 3 out of 10 new buyers don’t check if their computers can handle those RAM sticks and support them or not. As a result, they have to return it from where they bought it and buy another one.
So, to avoid this type of situation, just make sure your motherboard, CPU support that RAM or not.
#3. Type of RAM:
In 2020, you can see mostly DDR3 or DDR4 RAM types, but some years back DDR2 was also occupying the market. However, they can’t be placed or installed in another’s slot.
For example, if your motherboard supports DDR4 RAM type, you can’t install DDR3 RAM in that motherboard. Since I am writing this post for DDR3 RAM, so make sure if your RAM is DDR3 and your motherboard supports it.
#4. Speed or frequency:
Do you know motherboards that support a maximum amount of frequency? That’s why check if the frequency of DDR3 RAMs you are gonna buy supported by your motherboard or not.
#5. Buy from a reputed brand:
Not only RAM but also in any PC components, I prefer buying them from a reputed brand. If you buy from a reputed brand, perhaps your components got damaged or corrupted, you get awesome customer care support and warranty from them.
But, in the case of others, God knows what is going to happen.
#6. RGB or non-RGB?
In 2020, literally, everyone is going for RGB, the great-looking RAMs. But, do they worth buying?
Ya, RGB can make your computer 1000 times faster:)
Okay, I am joking. But, the actual truth is if you get RGB RAMs, they are exactly the same as normal ones and can give the same frequency but it has beautiful lighting, showing which you can impress others.
I personally love RGB, but the sad truth is that they are expensive. You have to pay almost double to the same featured RAM but with RGB. So, just check your budget and go for it if you think you really need it.
However, I have rarely seen DDR3 RAMs come with RGB lighting. So, if you are buying DDR4, then RGB could be a great option for you.
#7. 32 or 64 bit:
Simply, 32 bit is no longer effective. That’s why please go for 64 bit RAM. But, I know many people still use 32-bit OS (operating system).
But, in the above case, I prefer to change the operating system to 64-bit than buying 32-bit RAM.
Some RAMs especially RGB ones need extra power, so make sure your motherboard is capable of that.
As I said before, good manufacturer companies always give a better warranty period and services too. So, make sure to buy RAM from a reputed brand.
In most of the case, RAMs from a good brand come with 2-3 years or above warranty. So, don’t forget to check the Ram’s warranty before buying it.
#10. Compare with other hardware:
Before buy DDR3 RAM, also check if it fits with your other components. For example, if you are gonna buy 2GB DDR3 RAM but you are using Core i5, then that will be just unfair.
You must have 4GB RAM with this type of heavy processor. So, make sure the RAM perfectly fits your system and can give you good performance.
