How to disable your laptop keyboard in two methods?

There are different purposes to disable their laptop keyboard. One of them is to disable it permanently rather than just disable/uninstall it for some time (method 1) And there are also ways by which you can simply disable your keyboard permanently (method 2). So, let’s discuss how you can easily disable laptop keyboard in just two methods:

Method 1:

Here we are going to turn off the old laptop from the device manager for some time. Note that you have to repeat this process every time when you boot up/restart your system.

Because in this method after restart your old keyboard will be activated automatically and drivers install as well.

If you want to permanently disable your laptops main keyboard, follow method 2. The only reason I am discussing this method because everybody doesn’t want to permanently disable their laptop keyboard. Rather they prefer to disable it for one time.

And the second reason is it is so simple. You can easily apply this step in 1-2 minutes. So, let’s disable your laptop keyboard:

  • Go to your start menu and open device manager by searching in it (You can also open it from your control panel or typing devmgmt.msc in Run).
  • In the device manager, expand the keyboard option.
  • Here you can see all the keyboard inserted in your laptop.
  • Just right-click on it and disable it.
  • Then click on yes.

You can also uninstall it from your laptop.

You have to follow this procedure after every restart, boot up in your system. Since this step isn’t permanent, the drivers of the old keyboard automatically install in your system. But, here what you have to do to permanently disable it.

Method 2 (permanently disable your keyboard):

Now we have to permanently disable your keyboard in this step. First, we should turn off installing the laptop driver again. If you do this step successfully, your old laptop keyboard (its drivers) never installs automatically and i.e. you can easily use any external keyboard. So, let’s disable it permanently-

disable laptop keyboard
  • Type gpedit.msc in your search box and open computer configurations.
  • Go to Administrative Templates/ System/ Device Installation/ Device Installation Restrictions.
  • Now, right-click on Prevent Installation of Devices and enable it.
  • Then go to your device manager and uninstall your keyboard drivers as I discussed in method 1. But, make sure to uninstall the drivers not disable it.

That’s all, now your old laptop drivers won’t install automatically.
