What is Cisco leap module and is it a virus?

As a computer operator, you have to install different softwares, programs in your pc or some installs directly at the time of installing your operating system like windows 7 8, 10, Linux, Ubuntu, etc. If you scroll the installed programs sometimes you find programs like Cisco EAP FAST Module, Cisco LEAP Module, and Cisco PEAP Module.

Now, the problem occurs when people get confused when you think if these Cisco leap modules are safe or dangerous for their PC, should you remove it completely? Don’t worry, in this article, I am gonna describe what Cisco leap module is and should you delete it from your PC?

First of all, let’s discuss what the Cisco leap module is?

what is the Cisco leap module?

Cisco leap module, Cisco EAP FAST Module, cisco-eap fast module all are software that helps your PC or laptop in connecting wirelessly with different devices like wifi router, wireless keyboard, mouse, etc. But, nowadays, computers hardly use it and that’s why it is almost useless in new devices.

But it is not a virus.

Do you use the LAN/ethernet network? Yes, if you use it you know that with the help of it you can transfer files, data from one computer to another and also you can connect your system with the internet.

Now, Cisco Leap Module is basically an authentication type for wireless LANs (WLANs). In lemon terms, generally to do a proper LAN connection you need a LAN cable. But, nowadays it can be done wirelessly and they are called WLANs. So, now you don’t need the so-called wires to get internet in your system.

Turning back to the topic, the Cisco leap module is 802.1X authentication type due to which your internet security increases and also extends the wireless connectivity.

Overall, since 2000 (Cisco leap module was introduced), it makes enhances security level tremendously by encryption.

Now let’s discuss its compatibility-

It is very common and also most available for every operating system like-

is Cisco leap module safe for your PC?

If you don’t use the LAN connection or the wireless one, there will be no harmful effect of it if you also delete Cisco leap module. But, in the case of schools, companies, where too many computers are connected with each other, you shouldn’t delete it from there.

Cisco products are launched in 2000 and after that, they are tremendously helpful. But after some years, their uses kept decreasing and now in 2020, PC’s hardly used them for wireless connectivity. But, it doesn’t mean these are useless. If this is already installed in your system, there are some probabilities that your system might be using them. So, if it isn’t creating any problem, I suggest not to delete it.

But, if you haven’t installed them and your system is working properly, you don’t need to download and install them forcefully.

As my personal experience, it doesn’t create any disturbance if you uninstall it, but if you have already deleted it and your system is not working properly, don’t worry. You can download and install it by yourself without any trouble.

As I described earlier, it is totally secure and obviously not a virus. Rather, it is a prototype of wireless LAN for strong authentication for passwords.

After some years of launch, LEAP is replaced with FAST, which is also developed by Cisco like LEAP. EAP-FAST (Flexible Authentication via Secure Tunneling) finally fixed the security issues of LEAP.
